Emma Cate DePuy is a San Diego musician. She studies music at San Diego State University, teaches music, and works at Rady Children's Hospital as a healing artist.

I am incredibly grateful to the William Male Foundation for supporting me and believing in my musical pursuits. With their generous grant, my future as an independent artist/musician is far more hopeful and secure!

Emma is described by San Diego Story critic Ken Herman, as having a “...creamy mezzo (voice) and sophisticated phrasing...”. Following the relaxed, hipster trend of her home base of San Diego, she is heavily influenced by Katie Torwalt and Norah Jones. Emma writes and performs music in the jazz/folk/pop style.

Vocal coach/instructor, worship leader, singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Emma DePuy grew up in a home where music was as much a part of life as eating and sleeping. Emma has recently released the self-titled EP, Emma Cate, which boasts six original tracks, fully embracing an eclectic blend of genres. In addition to performing solo, she enjoys playing with the acoustic duo, Over the Moon, and Finding the Constant, a jazz/pop quartet. Just recently, Emma performed and toured for a year as the lead vocalist with the world-renowned band, SWARMIUS, a sonic fusion of Hip-Hop, House-Lounge-Techno meets modern-classical. Additionally, Emma currently leads worship at the Skyline Young Adult ministry, Skyline6, and has led worship throughout high school and college for various churches around San Diego, including Newbreak Church and the Rock Church. Emma is pursuing her BM in Professional Music Studies at San Diego State University with an anticipated graduation in May 2016. Emma DePuy studies with former New York City Opera singer Laurinda Nikkel with whom she immerses herself in the genres of opera and classical art song, as well as choral singing. Emma performs with the auditioned vocal ensemble of SDSU, Chamber Choir, and has performed with the SDSU Opera Theater. Most recently, Emma performed as soloist with the SDSU Orchestra in the world-premiere of Suite Noir.

Emma DePuy’s music is not merely relegated to the stage, however. As of Summer 2015, Emma has merged her passion for therapy with her love for music in a new job at Rady Children’s Hospital. She now is working at the hospital as a Healing Artist. She is blessed with the opportunity of playing music for and even teaching music to the courageous children that are patients there. Additionally, Emma has formed a private studio of voice, piano, and guitar students that she meets with on a weekly basis. Emma’s love for teaching came about at a young age and has only blossomed since then. In her free time, Emma enjoys reading, baking cookies, and spending time with her family and friends.
