Marcella Torres-Sánchez

Marcella Torres-Sánchez {she/her/hers} hails from Tijuana, México, where she began her dance training at Denz Dance Studio at age three. She then continued her artistic and experimental studies at Lux Boreal Dance Company, where she received a certification in Contemporary Dance and Scenic Production. In addition, she was a Gloria Campobello Dance School member. She received extensive training in ballet, contemporary, jazz, and Spanish dancing, where in addition to her training, she performed in classical productions like The Nutcracker and Diana and Acteon. She received her Associate's Degree in Visual and Performing Arts from San Diego City College. In 2020, Marcella graduated Magna Cum Laude from U.C. San Diego, where she double majored with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance and a Bachelor of Sciences in Education Sciences. During her undergrad, she received the Chancellor's Associate Scholarship. She even received the Patricia Rincon Diversity Award for contributing to the university dance community as an activist artist. After graduating, Marcella joined Visionary Dance Theatre as a dance instructor and company member for two seasons. In addition, she has completed summer programs at Black Studio in México City, Broadway Dance Center in New York, and San Diego Dance Theater.

In 2021, Torres-Sánchez was one of the participants in the choreographer's showcase "Movement Makers," where she became one of the winners alongside Jio Chavez. Last year, she received an Artist Residency from the Naval Training Center Foundation as an Emerging Dancer and Choreographer in conjunction with Trixi Anne Agiao and Lavina Rich. As well as becoming one of the finalists in the San Diego Dance Theater: "Young Choreographer's Showcase and Prize" (2022), where she won best overall for her work entitled "Desplazados."  Recently, Marcella received a grant from WMF to help produce a dance work at Live Arts Fest 2023 entitled “A.B.I.
