As soon as Jazmyne Lyons walked into the interview room, everyone on the selection committee was captured by her poise and confidence. She was so well-spoken and told us her story of being a foster youth and finding her passion for cooking in the Culinary Arts Program at Garfield High School. After her team won the San Diego Teen Iron Chef Competition, she decided to apply to study at the Culinary Institute of America in New York where she is currently enrolled.
The William Male Foundation was proud to be able to award Jazmyne a grant to help her with expenses that she would have during her freshman year in culinary school. Jazmyne aspires to become a Certified Master Chef over the span of her career as well as own a three Michelin star decorated restaurant after graduating and training.
